Why you can’t trust the U.N.

The AP news service has admitted that U.N. sanctions against Saddam Hussein were not working:

Interviews with dozens of former and current Iraqi officials by congressional investigators have produced new evidence that Saddam Hussein micromanaged business deals under the U.N. oil-for-food program to maximize political influence with important foreign governments like Russia and neighboring Arab states.

This proves that the “we rushed to war” crowd is out of touch. Sanctions were supposed to help depose Hussein. Not only were the sanctions not working, they were having the opposite of their intended effect. The sanctions were keeping Hussein in power and expanding his influence.

Relying on U.N. diplomacy to protect the United States will only encourage threats to grow. Yet this is what John Kerry is advocating in his run for president.

But wait; there's more. Clinton's going to run for Secretary General of the U.N. in 2006 if Kerry gets elected. Here's the problem with that. Clinton has great rapport with the Third World countries in the U.N. (no kidding?! Maybe because he subsidized the entire Third World while he was in office and made every little spat a concern of the U.S.?). Meanwhile, a U.S. head to the U.N. would compromise the U.N.'s alleged multilateralism. Clinton could never exercise veto rights, lest the world cry the U.S. has too much control; nor could the U.S. Ambassador, whomever that might be. The U.N. would become less impactful than it is already and the U.S. would be seen not as the sole Superpower, rather the sole Controller. Not that that's a bad thing. Maybe we let Kerry get in office, then that would be the end of the U.N….? Just kidding!!!!! 🙂
